Our Purpose
The mission of First Presbyterian Preschool is to extend the mission of First Presbyterian Church by helping children develop as students who are prepared for a growing Christian faith (2 Peter 3:18), a successful start in kindergarten in accordance with their develop-mental timetable (Luke 2:52), and love of learning (Proverbs 2:2).
The objectives of our school are to provide learning opportunities that will enhance the spirit, mind, and body of the child. We will provide opportunities for children to learn about themselves, the world around them, others and God. We will endeavor to accomplish this by:
- Guiding children towards a loving relationship with Jesus Christ
- Providing daily opportunities to learn more about God’s Word
- Giving children opportunities to acquire new information to build learning skills
- Nurturing curiosity and enthusiasm for learning
- Encouraging a healthy self-concept
- Encouraging positive social experiences
- Providing opportunities to practice skills they are in the process of acquiring

Busy Bees and Bluebirds
First Presbyterian Preschool has two classes:
Busy Bees (3-year-olds) and Bluebirds (4-year-olds).
- The Busy Bees curriculum focuses on colors, shapes, family, five senses, seasons, nature, nutrition, safety, and holidays.
- The Bluebirds look at weekly alphabet-based themes incorporating literature, art, movement, finger plays, games, music, and kindergarten readiness activities.
Both classes listen to and discuss a Bible story each day, work on Bible memory verses, and pray together.
We use learning centers, games, puzzles, stories, puppets, and crafts for hands-on learning. Each week, we also visit the church library, go to chapel, and enjoy time in music class.
When instruction touches upon family issues the following definitions of marriage and family will be the guide:
“Marriage is a union between one man and one woman, designed of God to last so long as they both shall live.” The Westminster Book of Confessions
A family is made up of people who are related by birth, marriage, or adoption, in keeping with God’s design.
Our Staff
First Presbyterian Preschool is very blessed. We have dedicated Christian teachers who are well qualified, care about children, and are godly examples. Our returning staff have completed the 40-hour courses offered by the state. Our new teacher is in the process of completing these courses. Our Pre-K teacher has her CDA. The staff completes ten hours of in-service training each year.

Volunteering (for Non-VPK students)
We are so happy to have so many parents lend their time and talents in the service of our children. We do require each non-VPK child’s parent to volunteer once each semester, or twice for the entire year. Parents have three options for fulfilling this commitment:
- 1.Sign up for the required volunteer days (8:30-11:30 a.m.).
- 1.Barter with another parent to work in your place.
- 1.Pay $15.00 per required volunteer day.
VPK parents are encouraged to volunteer as a means of participating in your child’s school experience. Sign-up is available at Open House and on the calendar in the Bluebird classroom. Parents sign up for their preferred work day. The administration will assign specific classroom projects and assistance.
